We get asked that question a lot. In fact, it is usually the first thing that most people ask when calling a home inspector. But let’s get the obvious answer out of the way: it depends. The price of an inspection depends on location, size of the home, which additional services you want, and things like that. But instead of asking how much an inspection costs, ask what value it brings.

For instance, if we are inspecting your home and we find a roof defect that is $10,000, then the value of the inspection is nearly immeasurable – monetarily, yes, but then imagine the emotional toll of finding that out after you move in.

But what if we don’t find anything? Then the peace of mind is more than worth it. We don’t ask why we go to the doctor for a checkup – because we know that it is important to know we are in good health.

So “how much does an inspection cost” is not the question to really ask. Instead, ask what value a thorough home inspection really brings you.
