Preparing a property for cold weather is a very important activity for every homeowner. Many homeowners already have a plan to winterize their property every year. However, if you’re a new homeowner that wasn’t aware of the importance of this activity, or if you’re just taking advantage of the warmer temperatures for as long as possible, we’d like to encourage you to take action and have a plan to prepare your home for cold weather.

There are plenty of things to check around your home to prepare for winter, and most of them involve protecting your property against the damage that comes from freezing moisture. This is especially damaging on exterior wood, masonry, or hard surfaces. It’s also good to check your drainage system and gutters to make sure there’s no standing water or damage that would prevent easy snowmelt runoff. If you have lawn care equipment or outdoor furniture, be sure to cover or store them.
