Texas is a great place to find delicious, rich meals. Whether they’re packed with fat, grease, oil, or butter, there are plenty of guilty pleasures to eat in our great state. While meals like these can be very enjoyable, it’s important to remember a simple, yet critical fact – never pour excess fat or grease down any of your home’s drains.

While fat and grease may be liquidy or gelatinous while they’re warm, at some point in your plumbing system, they’re going to cool down, coagulate, and even harden. They can form what’s called in some places “fatbergs”. These massive rocks of hardened fat can cause significant damage to the sewage system of a home, neighborhood, and even entire cities. And all of that comes from the simple act of people pouring fat down their kitchen sink. To avoid all of that mess, why not let the fat or grease sit out on the counter for a while to cool on its own, and then wipe it off into the trash?
