The attic is one of the areas of a home where most homeowners never go but can be one of the biggest sources of serious issues. Most attics are difficult to access, and even if you can make it up there, it can be difficult to look closely at what’s going on up there.

Fortunately, that’s where thermal imaging with an infrared camera can make things a lot easier. There are plenty of issues that an infrared camera can help an inspector to detect. For example, if rodents make a nest for themselves in your attic, chances are good that they’re destroying your insulation. Thermal imaging can detect not only where the family of rodents is living, but also where there is damaged insulation, since the gaps in coverage will likely mean significant changes in temperature. This is just one small example that illustrates why thermal imaging is an important part of a home inspector’s toolkit.
